Shows worth flying for.
Le Grand Détour is a guide to the concerts worth traveling for. The few nights where the artist, the room, and the city line up.
Most tour stops aren't worth a flight. A few are: the right artist in the right room, in a city that deserves the weekend around it. The trouble is finding them. Tour dates arrive by the hundred, and nothing in the pile tells you which night is the one you'd build a weekend around.
So we built a magazine around a radar. It sweeps whole tours, scores every stop (the setting, the timing, the room, the getting-there), and keeps only what's worth your while. We'd rather show you three trips you'd actually take than three hundred you won't.
The promise: never miss the show worth flying for.
The fair question: why fly for an artist who'll pass through your city eventually? Because you'd be waiting for the smaller version. The show at home is a Tuesday. The same show somewhere you've never been is a trip, built around one night you already know you'll love. That's the anchor. When you know one thing will go right, you go.
And the artists are in on it. The good ones don't scatter dates across a map; every choice carries a reason. Björk home in Iceland, timed to a solar eclipse. Bad Bunny turning a Puerto Rico residency into the destination itself. Kraftwerk in the Bauhaus that invented the aesthetic they've spent half a century translating into sound. Shows like that happen once, in one place, and never again in that form. Most of them slip past in the feed before you'd ever book a thing.
Finding those, and handing you the trip around them, is the whole job.
Name the artists you'd travel for and where you fly from. The radar judges every stop on every tour against your departure city: the flight, the dates, the venue, the city itself. It returns a shortlist with the whole trip built around each show: the fare from your city, the room worth booking, the presale before it sells out. Save the ones you're serious about and we keep watching them; start a caravan and friends can track a list together.
The weekly radar is free. All Access watches your whole taste: every presale window, every fare drop.
- The show is the anchor; the city is the reward. A great gig in a city you’d never otherwise visit beats a good gig anywhere.
- “Skip” is a verdict we’re proud of. Telling you what isn’t worth the trip is most of the job.
- Your taste stays yours. No ad trackers, nothing sold. The details live in our privacy policy.
- Verdicts aren’t for sale. Some booking links may earn us a commission; it never changes what we recommend, or what we tell you to skip.
- The trip has a footprint. We are a magazine that tells you to get on planes, so a portion of our revenue funds carbon removal through Stripe Climate.
